5 Questions for Cinderella
A Sparkle Before Midnight: Spotlight on Our Cinderella
When the lights rise and the orchestra begins on VOS Theatre's production of Cinderella, Jessica MacNeill steps into a role that has captured imaginations for generations. As Cinderella, Jessica brings warmth, heart, and a touch of sparkle to the stage, transforming a timeless fairytale into a deeply human story of hope, resilience, and dreams worth chasing. She invites audiences, if only for a magical moment, to cheer for the girl who dares to dream big before midnight.
1) Why did you want to play Cinderella?
I’ve always loved a Rodgers and Hammerstein ingénue. They’re often underestimated, but they’re intelligent, layered characters with some of the most beautiful music to sing. Stepping into Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella feels really special for that reason. I’m also excited to be part of a show that everyone can enjoy; especially knowing even my youngest family members can be there.
2) What is your favourite role that you have played in past shows?
I’ve been so fortunate with the roles I’ve played. I can’t help but have a soft spot for Roxie Hart. I loved finding my own spin on such an iconic role in Chicago. I toted my little pink suitcase back and forth from the train all summer feeling like a million bucks. I’d revisit that show again in a heartbeat.
3) What are your "dream" roles for a show yet to come?
Where do I begin? I love manifesting. Elle Woods, Sweet Charity, G(a)linda, Clara in The Light in the Piazza, Johanna in Sweeney; Another Rodgers and Hammerstein ingénue too, please. Laurie in Oklahoma, for sure. I could go on, but you see the vision.
4) You obviously love being on stage. When did you realize that?
It’s always felt like a natural part of who I am. I was lucky to be introduced to a wide range of art from a young age, and those experiences kept me inspired. Over time, performing just became the place where everything clicked.
5) Who are your influences from the entertainment world ?
My influences are kind of all over the place in the best way. I love musical theatre, pop music, and movies of all kinds. I recently saw Project Hail Mary in theatres and was completely blown away. James Ortiz’s performance as Rocky was a masterclass. I’m always inspired by great storytelling, no matter the medium, and I love bringing a bit of all of that into my work.
